Linda Tym, Ph.D

Linda Tym has more than 16 years of experience working in higher education at 6 different institutions in 3 countries, which has given her a broad understanding of administration, education, and research. She completed her BA English at Burman University (formerly Canadian University College) and her MA English at the University of Toronto, but it was when she began her first adjunct position that she found her true love for teaching and for guiding students through the learning process. After a year of teaching, Linda knew her calling: to be an educator.

Linda completed her PhD in English Literature at the University of Edinburgh in 2011 and her own learning continued to broaden and deepen.

Since then, Linda has held positions as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, Post-Doctoral Tutor at the University of Edinburgh, Co-Director of the Scottish Universities’ International Summer School (Edinburgh), Director of the Southern Scholars Honors Program (Tennessee), and as Associate Professor of English (Tennessee and Alabama). She has completed training in Emotional Intelligence (2021) and holds certifications in Cultural Intelligence (2018) and in the Paul-Elder Approach to Critical Thinking (2022). She has reviewed for Rowman and Littlefield and the Edinburgh Review and her research has been published with Macmillian, Gale Cengage, and the Scottish Literary Review.

As a lifelong learner, Linda has found institutional organization, planning, and administration invigorating and is passionate about curriculum development, but has been reaffirmed that these require a strong foundation in fairminded critical thinking to achieve the true purpose of education: facilitating the student learning process through teaching and research that models and upholds the intellectual standards and fosters the development of positive intellectual traits in administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

In addition to her work, Linda has a deep love for music and family. She and her husband, Jonathan Enck, live in Huntsville, AL.
